The Frenchpark Fox Terrier
kennel was established in 2004 by John Killeen (of Dun Gar Wire
Fox Terriers) and Mary Lynn Killeen (Machado). Frenchpark strives
to breed champion wire and smooth fox
terriers that not only meet the breed standard, but also make wonderful
pets. Several of the Frenchpark dogs also have performance event
titles as
champion earthdogs.
WIRE HISTORY Frenchpark first began
as Dun Gar Wire Fox Terriers. Established in 1982, John
Killeen and former wife, Lynn, bred champion Wire Fox Terriers.
The name 'Dun Gar' is the Irish
Gaelic name
of the village in County Roscommon, Ireland, where John's father was
born. Frenchpark is the English
name for Dun Gar. John and Lynn learned to groom and show with
the assistance of Conor, the first wire fox terrier they showed.
Grooming and showing skills were honed with help from many wire fox
terrier experts. Conor, as it turned
out, was not show dog material, but turned out to be a natural field
terrier. They continued to show Conor in matches for practice and
began the search for a show bitch. They finally found Maeve after
more than a year of searching. Maeve was descended from a bevy of
stars (see the Ancestors page) and she grew into a very nice show
girl. Maeve was a great producer with four champions to her
credit out of only two litters. With her first litter she
produced Mac, a male, and Classy, a female. Both Mac and
Classy finished their championships in short order. From Maeve's
second litter came Dee, who was also shown to her
championship. Dee's first litter provided Dun Gar with their
latest champion - Jewel. Jewel is the product of
Dun Gar to Dun Gar breeding. Maeve passed away in 2005 at 15
years of age. Classy, Dee and Jewel
currently reside at Live Wire Fox Terriers
in Belford, New Jersey. Mac resides with us at Frenchpark.
John and Mary Lynn are continuing the Dun Gar tradition of breeding quality wire fox terriers under the Frenchpark prefix. SMOOTH HISTORY Mary Lynn Killeen (Machado) has been involved with Fox Terriers since 1990, when her first fox terrier came into her life. Mary Lynn found Rona, a wire fox terrier, running the streets of downtown Toronto, Canada. Unable to locate the owner Rona stayed and Mary Lynn fell in love with her classic Wire Fox Terrier personality. Mary Lynn moved to Los Angeles, and soon after acquired a companion for Rona - a young Smooth Fox Terrier named Freeway, bred by Sue Pucci of Windfall Smooth Fox Terriers. While walking along the beach one day she met Dennis Broderick, an avid earthdog participant with his Cairn Terriers. He told her all about the sport of earthdog and Mary Lynn and Freeway and Rona soon became regulars at local Southern California earthdog events. Soon after Mary Lynn's foray into the dog show world began. She acquired a lovely young male, and after attending lots of dog shows and watching the pros she then began showing "Tommy". In less than three months, Tommy had finished his championship, owner handled, and Mary Lynn was hooked. The following year Tommy's first litter produced a bitch, Casey, who came to live with Mary Lynn. Casey finished her championship, also in short order, and has produced Champion offspring. |
